COVID-19 Softball Ready to Play Plan:

SPYA Softball’s primary objective is to abide by all guidelines and restrictions set

forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the CDC.

Cooperation and Responsibility:  Each stakeholder as outlined below has a responsibility to cooperate within the framework of this plan.

  • Softball Commissioner:
    • Distribute and post Return to Play and SPYA COVID-19 protocols
    • Communicate and educate coaches, parents, and players about Return to Play and SPYA COVID-19 protocols
    • Provide adequate field space for social distancing at practices
    • Provide all needed sanitizing materials to teams
    • Act as the designated Point of Contact for SPYA Softball coaches and parents regarding COVID-19 protocols
  • Coaches:
    • Follow all SPYA Softball Return to Play protocols and SPYA COVID-19 protocols
    • Temperature screen players and coaches upon arrival
    • Send players or coaches home if they are not feeling well and communicate this to the Softball Commissioner
    • Ensure all athletes have their own individual equipment
    • Ensure activities provide adequate social distancing
    • Coaches are required to wear a mask at all times
    • Softballs will be rotated on a regular basis to ensure limited contact
    • Times between practices and games on shared fields will be spread out to allow for the previous team to leave the premises
  • Parents:
    • If you are not comfortable having your child return to play, please keep them home for the Fall season. There will be opportunities to play in the future, and we will welcome them back at that time
    • Ensure all personal player equipment is sanitized prior to any team activity
    • Notify the head coach or SPYA Softball Commissioner if your child becomes ill or shows any symptoms of COVID-19
    • Adhere to all social distancing expectations while at SPYA Softball activities
    • Support SPYA’s mission to ensure the safety of all players, coaches, and spectators by following all protocols and encouraging a positive team culture
    • Parents and spectators should practice social distancing while attending any softball activities
    • Fans should wear a cloth mask while in attendance of practices and games
    • Fans should have no personal contact with coaches, players and other fans that do not reside in your household
  • Players:
    • Adhere to all Return to Play Protocols and SPYA COVID-19 protocols
    • Wash hands and utilize hand sanitizer before, during, and after SPYA softball activities
    • Ensure that you bring your own equipment to each practice/game and that it is sanitized prior to arrival
      • Equipment: Bat, glove, helmet, face mask, water bottle (chair recommended)
    • Place your personal equipment in designated assigned player areas apart from teammates
    • Do not share food, water, or equipment with teammates
    • Respect and practice social distancing as required in these guidelines
    • No handshakes or personal contact celebrations should happen during any softball activities
    • No sharing of drinks or food of any kind
      • As such, sunflower seeds, gum, etc. are not permitted on the field or in the dugout
      • All individuals must have their own drinks
    • Players will be assigned an area for practices and games to maintain social distancing and keep their equipment

With these practices in place we should be able to have a productive fall softball season.

SPYA reserves the right to refuse any player or fan access to the field if these rules are not being followed.
