A Note from the commissioner:

Hello future tackle player families! I'm happy that you are here and interested to know more about our program!  The SPYA tackle football program has 5 levels of teams.  Flag & JPW are considered instructional and PW, JV & Varsity are considered competitive in our league.   That being said, the following is how I run our program:  My philosophy is one that some may not agree with especially since we are in a competitive league but I believe in safety, learning, growth, fun, & getting out of it what you put in. They are only kids once, are just trying to figure out life and at such an impressionable age that even though winning is great I want them to leave our program happy that they were included, learned something and continue to have a love of the sport. Most importantly, they need to learn that winning isn't everything and to learn to win & lose graciously. All of these things will help them not only in future participation in sports but in life.

 

Reminder that we are a volunteer organization.

We can't have a successful season without the help of many parents, grandparents, & friends so be on the lookout for different volunteer needs throughout the year. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns anytime so please reach out.

 

Our Program

The tackle football program has 5 levels:

Flag - Flag football is designed for those players looking to learn the game and eventually move into tackle. Players can’t attain their 7th birthday before Jan. 1, 2024 &/or weigh more than 65lbs. https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/435578

Jr. PeeWee - First level of tackle, Instructional level, players can’t attain their 9th birthday before Aug. 1, 2024. Max weight of 100lbs. https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/436153

PeeWee - Competitive level, players can’t attain their 10th birthday before Aug. 1, 2024. Max weight 120 lbs.  https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/436162

Junior Varsity - Competitive level, players can’t attain their 11th birthday before Aug. 1, 2024. Max weight 140 lbs. *exception: Older/lighter players may be 11 IF they are 80lbs. or less https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/436160

Youth Camp

The coaches host a week-long camp from 6-7:30pm M-F the week of July 22-26 and is geared toward the new players to the sport. If this is your first time playing football or you have only played for 1 season, then this is for you. https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/436165

Mandatory Volunteer Fee

It takes a team of parents/families with a lot of time and effort to put on the best program for the players in our community.  The volunteer fee is mandatory and potentially reimbursable upon volunteering.  The fee was established across all SPYA sports to encourage volunteers to make the program better.  The fee is reimbursed at the end of the season once a family volunteers.

SPYA has a financial aid application and process for families in need.  It is completed in the strictest confidence.  You may request further information at treasurer@spya.org
