Good evening,

SPYA Spring softball registration is now open through TeamSnap!
SPYA participates in the Parkland Softball League.  Practices begin in early April.  Games begin the last week in April and run for 12 weeks until mid-June.
The success of the organization hinges on volunteer coaches.  Coaching is a rewarding activity and one your daughter’s will remember.  Even if you do not have any coaching experience, I am available as are others to help guide anyone.
We are fielding teams in the following divisions:
PREP:   Ages 8 and under.   Instructional softball focused on basic skills of throwing, fielding, and batting.  Players bat off a tee or a coach.  A “soft” ball and smaller playing field is utilized.  Games are typically Tuesdays and Saturdays and last 4 innings or 90 minutes max.
10U:  Ages 9 and 10.  Increased focus on skill development and competitive games.  Players pitch, score is kept, and umpires officiate the games.  Games are played on a standard field with 60’ bases, pitch from 35’, and use a small size 11 softball.
12U:  Ages 11 and 12.  Increased focus on game strategy and mental awareness.  Players pitch, score is kept, and umpires officiate the games.  Players are able to steal any base, a size 12 softball is used, and pitchers pitch from 40’.
14U:  Ages 13 and 14.  Play on a regulation size softball field with pitchers pitching from 43’.  **If PSL does not have a 14U division, girls will play at the 18U level.
18U:  Ages 13-18.
Games are scheduled at least twice per week.  Practices begin in early April and scheduled at the discretion of the coach.  A typical pre-season practice schedule consists of 3 practices per week.
SPYA provides a personalized softball jersey with the players name and number on it along with a pair of red socks.
Parents are responsible to supply black softball pants, cleats, softball glove, softball helmet with face mask.  A softball bat is recommended for each player.  There are extra bats if needed.  A fielding facemark is recommenced as well.
Home games and practices are held at fields in South Whitehall Township and Upper Macungie Township.  More information to follow as our season gets closer and field schedules are finalized with townships.
Registration closes on March 14.  Teams will be formed by the end of March with practices beginning the first week in April.  The registration link to TeamSnap will be posted on the SPYA website and softball Facebook page.  Please forward to those who are interested.
